Royal Chant – ‘Dick Move’

Sydney stalwarts Royal Chant are back with latest track Dick Move fresh off their new LP The War Cry Of Failure. An ode to trust fund kids hanging out on Oxford St, and by ode I mean piss take, Dick Move is exactly the kind of garage pop gem we’ve come to expect from the boys.

The self produced clip fittingly sees the trio playing in their beers, or on their beers, as the band are superimposed onto Tsingtao cans which then wander around various street scenes via the magic of stop motion.

Considering the band’s love of the amber nectar I think it’s safe to say the clip is also somewhat autobiographical. The track itself showcases the group’s peculiar mix of optimism and apathy, the lo-fi buzzed out guitars matching singer Mark Spence’s beaut Aussie drawl.

Now onto their second LP, following on from their previous effort Raise Your Glass & Collapse which itself follows a spree of EPs, singles and live albums, Royal Chant are relentless. Having navigated the turbulent waters of Australia’s music industry for over seven years now, and with about two or three epic regional tours to go with each of their many releases, the band might just be the most dedicated and passionate trio of blokes in Australia.
