Music Feeds recently had the honour of getting some couch time with James “Munky” Shaffer and Ray Luzier of nu-metal icons Korn as we hung around Sydney’s own Olympic Park for Soundwave 2014. Having completed several interviews, we couldn’t help but notice that the band other artists consistently mentioned as being a must-see act was in fact the Bakersfield quartet. We kicked things off by sharing some love for the festival.
“I don’t know how they put this all on,” said Ray. “Seven stages! I was just asking someone, who co-ordinates all this? We’ve done tons of festivals, but usually they’re spread out, but this all jam-packed into one day and one city. It’s awesome.”
Meanwhile Munky let us in on the stress of having to condense a two-decade discography into one setlist. “It would be nice if we put some thought into the setlist [laughs] but we’ve kind of just been winging it the last few shows,” he said. “We had a group of songs that sort of touched on a couple from each record and it was too long and felt unbalanced…so we’ve been shuffling things around to find that balance.”
