Flordiain pop-punkers Mayday Parade last graced Soundwave stages back in 2011, sharing a bill that was topped by NWBHM legends Iron Maiden and desert rock icons Queens of the Stone Age. This time around they’re travelling with a new album under their belts titled Monsters in the Closet, which the boys unveiled back in October. We had a chat to guitarist Brooks Betts and frontman Derek Sanders at Soundwave 2014 at Olympic Park in Sydney to see what it’s been like behind-the-scenes since Monsters in the Closet was released.
“We’ve gotten to a point where it’s very easy for us to make an album, whereas in the past we tried out some different ways of writing and recording,” Derek told us. “I feel like we’ve gotten to a point where we know exactly what works for us and how we’re gonna be happy with the album.”
“[Monsters in the Closet] seems to be just as strong as any record we’ve put out as far as the reaction,” added Brooks. “Obviously we get the numbers each week to see how many people are buying the record, but I think [the fans] get it.”
