American Football To Tour Australia After 15 Year Hiatus

Illinois trio American football reformed last year, following a 15 year break in recording, and the group are now set to bring their mix of emo, indie rock and math rock to Australia in July.

Within a year of releasing their 1999 self-titled debut album, which was preceded by an EP, American Football decided to stop recording together, but that didn’t stop their material from picking up critical acclaim and a vocal fan base.

American Football — that’s Mike Kinsella (guitar/bass/vocals), Steve Lamos (drums) and Steve Holmes (guitar) — have played a small number of shows since reissuing their debut album last May. Their ability to merge confessional lyrics with the varying time signatures of math rock remains as strong as ever, and will be experienced by fans when the band hit up Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney later this year.

Mike Kinsella’s cousin Nate Kinsella performed bass with the band in 2014, but it’s still unclear as to whether or not he’ll be playing on the group’s Australian tour.

American Football’s 2015 Australian jaunt begins in Brisbane on Friday, 3rd July. Tour and ticket details are available below.
