Ex-Of Mice & Men frontman Austin Carlile has been in the fucking wars with his Marfan Syndrome. As many fans already know, the singer has been suffering from some severe and life-threatening health issues, which impacted his decision to leave OM&M last year. And it’s also why he’s particularly pissed off at an online impersonator who’s been trying to take advantage of his fans’ goodwill.
In the midst of a nightmare week that saw him airlifted to his Costa Rica rehab centre to undergo two emergency spinal surgeries, Carlile has taken to Instagram to slam a fake Facebook account hitting up fans for donations.
As RockFeed reports, the singer revealed via an Instagram Stories update that an impersonator had made a shirt with his face printed on it and was hocking it online in a sponsored post promising that 25% of all proceeds would go towards a suicide prevention charity.
“I DO NOT HAVE FACEBOOK” Carlile’s Instagram PSA read. “This is so spineless because I actually AM struggling with medical bills.”
“And to include that I am giving part to charity makes me sick. These people should be ashamed of themselves. SCAM.”
Back in April, Carlile shared the gory details of his intensive three-month spinal treatment with fans, and promised that he’d be returning to music in the American summer.
Fingers crossed all goes well with his rehab and we’ll be seeing him back on stage again soon!
It’s unlikely that we’ll see him retake the reigns as frontman for OM&M though. Carlile recently revealed that his dodgy health wasn’t the only reason for his split with the band, claiming that his now ex-bandmates wouldn’t let him write what he wanted to write on their next record.
