Avalanches Finally Ready With New Album

The long, long wait for the new album from the Avalanches appears to be over with the news that the follow up to 2000’s Since I Left You is well on the way. That’s an 11 year itch now close to being scratched.

The Music Network reports that founder of Modular Records and curator of this year’s VIVID programme, Steven Pavlovic, has confirmed that the Melbourne band’s second album is nearly finished.

Pavlovic said that all that needs doing is “some tweaking to the production elements”, before the whole shebang is complete. It is likely the album will be released some time in 2012, although a new track may come out this year.

Pavlovic also said, “They’re finished, and they’re celebrating. And they’re going to have a little party to celebrate finishing it. The next stage will see the album go to someone to mix.”

Since I Left You launched the Avalanches to outstanding international success, reaching number eight in the UK albums chart and the single of the album’s title taking Video of the Year at the 2001 MTV Europe Awards.

Murmurs of a possible new album have come out at various junctures in the decade since then, cruelly tantalising fans, who will now surely have not much longer to wait.
