Birds Of Tokyo Announce “Darker” New Album ‘Brace’, Share Heavy Title Track

Birds Of Tokyo have announced their “darker” new album Brace and revealed the first single and title track from their forthcoming record.

In an interview with triple j this morning, the band revealed their fifth studio album will have a “very deliberate” new sound, taking a “darker, dirty rock direction”.

Birds Of Tokyo said earlier this year that they thought the forthcoming record wouldn’t get much radio play because it was too ‘heavy’.

“Rock music sucks these days, but it doesn’t have to,” the band told triple j‘s Kyran Wheatley and Gen Fricker. Birds Of Tokyo worked on the new record with Dave Bottrill, who has previously worked with Tool, Muse and Smashing Pumpkins, and the band say he’s “the best producer we’ve worked with to date”.

“Mums of Australia are going to hate it,” said the band’s Adam Spark when asked what fans of their last effort Lanterns will think of their latest creative project.

Birds Of Tokyo also revealed that Friday, 4th November is the release date for Brace, and said they’re planning on taking the new record on the road for a bunch of tour dates in November and December.

The band debuted a bunch of new songs at a special show in Sydney last night, including a track called Discoloured with The Jezabels‘ Hayley Mary. Check it out below, alongside Brace and the album’s cover art.
