Written by Greg Moskovitch on August 27, 2013

The first line up announcement for Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 has been made and in trademark style, organisers have served up a selection of the hottest acts in blues, folk, soul, jazz and roots music that the world has to offer. Fans will be celebrating the festival’s 25th Birthday with John Mayer, John Butler Trio, Dave Matthews Band, Erykah Badu, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Iron & Wine, Devendra Banhart and many more!

John Mayer will be making his return to the festival after seven long years, hot on the momentum of his latest studio effort, Paradise Valley. One of the world’s most popular, talented and in-demand ensembles, the Dave Matthews Band will be bringing to Byron Bay the wealth of musical knowledge that only a career spanning 21 years and eight acclaimed studio albums could for not one but two performances.

The reigning “Queen of Soul” herself, Erykah Badu will be bringing her unforgettable live show to Bluesfest 2014, playing her inimitable blend of heartfelt funk, soul, R&B, hip hop, jazz and blues. And Australia’s own John Butler Trio are sure to wow fans with an energetic and virtuosic performance, their formidable chops have led the band to become synonymous with Bluesfest over the years. These incredible acts are just a taste of what Bluesfest 2014 has to offer.

Commenting on the significance of the festival’s silver anniversary, director Peter Noble says, “We are going to be celebrating this one as never before and will deliver you one hell of a line up and mark my words: this is only the beginning.” He couldn’t be more right, with 2014’s Bluesfest shaping up to be their best yet and serving as a testament to the festival’s commitment to a dynamic and eclectic mix of fantastic artists.
