ORIGINAL STORY: This. Is. HUGE.
The past and the future of Aussie female-fuelled rock n’ roll are set to collide in a BIG WAY with homegrown rock royals Divinyls set to reunite for one night only to perform live with The Preatures frontwoman Izzi Manfredi stepping in for the late, great Chrissy Amphlett.
What’s more, Manfredi will become the first lead singer to perform with the iconic act since the passing of their legendary frontwoman in 2013, and will join Divinyls OGs Mark McEntee, Richard Harvey and Rick Grossman, plus her Preatures bandmate Jack Moffit, for the first Divinyls live set in close to a decade.
It’s an unquestionably apt pairing, as anyone who’s even scarcely familiar with The Preatures will know that the legacy of Divinyls and other classic rock acts like The Angels and The Pretenders courses through their veins, oozing out in everything from their musical style to their fashion sense to their bloody hairdos.
“We would’ve moved heaven and earth to do this show,” Manfredi says. “My job is to do Chrissy proud here, but also honour the life of the songs and the original lineup. It’s a moment in time.”
It’s happening in Perth, of all places, to close out the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival (TPFF) on 17th September.
TPFF Director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan says the event fulfils her long-held vision for a showcase that celebrates the cultural synergy between fashion and rock n’ roll.
“Music has always had a powerful influence on style,” she says. “Especially in the past five decades, the music of the time has had such an impact on trends - just look at the 1960s and the flower power era.”
The news follows the release of The Preatures’ highly-frothed second album Girlhood.
