EXCLUSIVE: Stream Yacht Club DJs Debut EP, ‘No. 1’

When Ballarat duo Yacht Club DJs announced the Oddity Number Five East Coast tour back in February, excited as fans were, their interests were perhaps more piqued by the news that the pair would finally conquer the one frontier they were yet to surmount, with a debut EP dubbed No. 1.

Fans will have already heard the first official taste of the No. 1 EP, the slinky Undertow, which the boys shared last month. The track, a dance floor bound, Madchester-infused sax romp with plenty of acid housey beats, prepared fans for the splendour of No. 1 in shimmering, opulent style.

Since their inception six years ago, Yacht Club DJs have been busy, embarking on a sold out US tour after being handpicked by Mumford & Sons, releasing five lauded mixtapes, and performing thousands of live shows at home and abroad, while amassing thousands of plays and views online.

“We’ve always wanted to release original material, but I think for both of us, it’s never been something we wanted to force,” said Gaz Harrison. “It’s just something that felt right, and we have finally done something that we both agree on and something that represents what we actually like.”

From the retro, glitch-ridden sample thrash of T.I.N.A, to the stomping industrial beats and chiptune electronics of Real Talk, and from the bouncy, Hacienda-ready Undertow, to the twisted, radiophonic workshopping acid of Say Hello To Techno, it’s pure Yacht Club DJs from beginning to end. Hungry fans can finally get their hands on the the No. 1 EP from Friday, 11th April via Create / Control.
