Foo Fighters, Metallica & More Plan 2015 Record Store Day Releases

Foo Fighters, Metallica and Australia’s own Courtney Barnett are amongst the many artists providing limited edition releases this coming Record Store Day – a day set aside to celebrate independent record stores. Organisers of the annual event have today released the list of titles that will be released exclusively at brick and mortar record stores on 18th April.

In celebration of their 20th anniversary and Dave Grohl’s tenure as this year’s Record Store Day Ambassador, Foo Fighters will be putting out Songs From the Laundry Room – a four-track, 10″ release which will include demos of Big Me and Alone + Easy Target, a cover of Kim Wilde’s Kids in America and the previously unreleased track Empty Handed.

Also set for release are a cassette reissue of Metallica 1982 demo tape No Life ’til Leather which will be officially available for the first time.

On the 592-strong list of releases is one by Australia’s Courtney Barnett. She will be releasing the Kim’s Caravan 12″, featuring the track of the same name taken from her forthcoming debut album, as well as a cover of John Cale’s Close Watch.

Sun Kil Moon’S Mark Kozelek will also unveil a 12″ vinyl version of an early solo album he made entirely of “drastically rearranged acoustic covers of Bon Scott-era AC/DC songs.” Plus Garbage will release a 10″ fluorescent orange coloured vinyl called The Chemicals, with two original tracks, one of which will feature a guest artist.

The Violent Femmes’ Happy New Year features their first new material in 15 years, recorded in Tasmania.

Mumford and Sons will celebrate their return by putting out a 7″ featuring two tracks, Believe and The Wolf, taken from their forthcoming new record Wilder Mind.

Run The Jewels will return with a 12″ of new music while Jack White is planning on re-releasing Elvis Presley’s first-ever recording, 1953’s My Happiness, for which he paid $300,000 at auction.

See the full list over at the Record Store Day website. Keep in mind the list only pertains to releases set for US record stores, and there’s no certainty they’ll be available via Australian retailers.
