Future Music Festival Headliners – What You May Not Know: Round 1

So, how frustrating is it when you’re standing in the pit waiting for the band to start and suddenly someone asks you a question about the act, and you don’t know the answer. You feel the eyes of all those around you staring into your soul thinking ‘what a poser…’ Well, fear not my friends, for Music Feeds has you covered.

We have delved to the depths of our music knowledge to uncover some interesting facts that will not only go down well when you’re questioned in the pit, but at a dinner party, or even at the pub. For example, the fact that 30 Seconds From Mars frontman Jared Leto is actually Zac Zefron in drag, or that the word metal came after the band Metallica. Well, those we might need to check up on, but the following facts we are 100% on.

The Prodigy: Did you know that the band got their name from the first synthesizer that Liam Howlett used to make music – the Moog Prodigy? However, it has also been attributed to Howlett’s solo artist status that he held before being joined by 3 other members: ”When I first thought of the name, obviously I didn’t consider it could be four people. It was just me, faceless, in my bedroom, writing music: the prodigy.”

The Stone Roses: Another interesting one about the name: ‘The Stone Roses’ was originally suggested to founding member John Squire in 1983 as a tip-of-the-hat to The Rolling Stones, though the meaning was later changed to represent both sides of the band, Stones being hard, and Roses being soft. Also, the band’s most recognisable track Fools Gold was originally meant for a B-Side release, but shot straight to an A-Side after a massive performance at Top of the Pops

PSY: Despite how much of a party animal this dude is, PSY actually served in the South Korean Military twice: once for his mandatory service, but also again after it was discovered in 2007 that he didn’t serve his mandatory period correctly. Imagine him doing that horse riding dance in between mines in the battlefield.

Bloc Party: Forget about Drake and Chris Brown: back in 2005, the delightful Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke found himself in a bit of a blue with Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos. Argos let rip on Kele and Bloc Party through an online publication, and when the two met in a London nightclub, a minor physical altercation broke out. Okereke isn’t a violent looking dude, but you sure wouldn’t want to be in his bad books.

Dizzee Rascal: While in town for BDO 2010, Dizzee Rascal was falconed by a deodorant can thrown from someone in the pit. Rather than just copping it, Rascal descended from the stage, going absolutely bonkers, and ran to the barrier, swinging hard at the dude who threw it. Security had to pull him off, after which he went back on stage and kept the show going.

Azealia Banks: Other than being born a year after me in 1991, and leaving me feeling insanely under accomplished, Azealia Banks is more of an entrepreneur than a rapper. As well as her EP and singles, Banks has also released her own brand of lipstick, and has a keen interest in the fashion industry
