Glass Animals Respond After Music Festival Bans Pineapples

Reading & Leeds Festival in the UK has banned pineapples and Glass Animals aren’t happy about it at all.

The tropical fruit has become somewhat of a symbol for the band since they name-checked it in their track ‘Pork Soda’ and so many of their fans have started bringing them to their shows in the form of actual fruit or even blow-up toys.

As the BBC report though, the festival aren’t having any of it, putting pineapples on their banned items list alongside things like fireworks and gas cannisters.

“Organisers were a little concerned about hundreds of pineapples turning up on site so decided to ask fans not to bring them along,” a spokesperson said about the band although they did admit, “The tongue may be slightly in cheek on this one.”

Glass Animals have been quick to fire back with drummer Joe Seaward slamming the ban as “fruitist” and turning the band into a challenge.

“Anyone who wasn’t bringing a pineapple definitely is now,” he told NME.

“It’s fruitist. Watermelons are fine, but not pineapples? It’s irresponsible to stop young people at a festival having vital vitamin P.”

No word yet on whether this ban extends to the stage which the band have been known to decorate with the fruit at times. The festival goes down at the end of August so we’ll find out then whether the band rebel against the ban.
