Gorillaz Return With First New Song In Five Years, ‘Hallelujah Money’

Gorillaz are back, and they’ve just dropped their first new song in five years, the plodding and political anti-Trump anthem, ‘Hallelujah Money’.

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s animated group have shared the new track, which is the first taste of a forthcoming Gorillaz album. The song features Mercury Prize-winning artist Benjamin Clementine, who is seen singing from Trump Tower in the track’s accompanying music video.

Sharing the song on social media today, Gorillaz say, “Dark times – u need someone to look up to. Me. Here’s a lightning bolt of truth in a black night. Now piss on! New stuff won’t write itself.”

‘Hallelujah Money’ arrives on the eve of US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, and comes after some serious teasing of new music from the Gorillaz crew throughout the last few months.

The band’s highly-anticipated fifth studio album is expected later this year but is still without an official title or release date. Their previous single ‘DoYaThing’ was released in 2012 and featured LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Outkast’s André 3000.
