Hot Chip member Joe Goddard has been touring Australia on the Stereosonic line-up with his side project, 2 Bears. While he was in the country he found the time to catch up with triple j and let them in on some details about the new album. The proposed release date will be May/June 2012 and an Australian tour is also planned.
Goddard told triple j:
The plan is when we get back from this trip we’re going to be finishing the album and mixing it and hopefully it’s going to be coming out May or June. And then we’re going to be on tour and we’ll definitely be back in Australia and around the world. There’s about 12 or 13 tracks written and about 10 of those are finished. We’re still writing a couple more but I think we’re nearly there
During the interview Goddard also gave us a behind-the-scenes look into his hit single Gabriel explaining that the collaboration with vocalist Valentina came out of the blue.
She’s managed by one of the guys that I run the record label, Greco Roman, with – a guy called Dom. He’s been managing her for a few years. She’s basically a folk artist; she writes beautiful, really slow acoustic songs and is a really good singer/songwriter. She had this track that she didn’t know what to do with and it was just a cappella and really slow, like 80 BPM or something, and she wasn’t sure how to finish the song. Dom sent it to me and I thought, if you sped this up loads it would make an amazing house record. I was on tour at the time and tried to do it quickly and it just came together really nicely.
