Mullumbimby-born rapper Iggy Azalea has made chart history overnight, scoring both a number one and number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, a feat achieved only once previously in 1964 by The Beatles.

Azalea’s hit Fancy featuring Charli XCX reached top spot on the Billboard charts, while her collaboration with pocket-size powerhouse Ariana Grande, Problem, sits squarely in second place.

The soon to be 24-year old Aussie expat now joins the Billboard record books alongside Fab Four, who on February 22nd, 1964 saw their hit songs I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You, respectively holding first and second place on the charts, following their landmark appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9th. Remarkably the tracks held the top two rungs for six weeks.

Azalea, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, also became the first Australian artist to top the US chart in 33 years, having been preceded by Olivia Newton-John in 1981 with Physical. She’s also only the fourth solo female rapper ever to top the Hot 100, following on from Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim and Ludacris collaborator Shawnna.

“Well I’m very pleased. Last year seemed impossible to convince anyone in the music business I could break into the top 100,” wrote Azalea on Twitter about the news. “So let this serve as proof anything is possible & I hope we see more female rappers new and established in the charts. Dope stuff, thanks!”

Not all fellow rappers are fans of Azalea though, considering her recent spat with notorious troublemaker Tyler, The Creator who, during an appearance on a US TV show, said Azalea “stinks” and that her “booty is fake”.

Azalea was not impressed by his comments and fired back later on Twitter. “Tyler the creator is beyond immature. I’ve always believed you had something more to offer the world, Shame to see you be so rude.” She then added, “People that make enemies and talk shit about ppl they’ve never even said hi to trip me out. I see it all the time… Strange world.

The spat, according to Azalea, spurred countless new internet trolls to set their sights onto her. “I shouldn’t have to read hate tweets from 101 little boys yet to grow pubic hair just because I said I don’t enjoy someone I’ve never met saying I stink on national television,” she wrote. “Go home, grow up. Move on.”
