Listen: Dinosaur Jr. New Single ‘Watch The Corners’

Written by Mike Hohnen on July 4, 2012

Punk icons Dinosaur Jr. have returned with their third album since their 2005 reformation and their 10th since their 1985 conception. Titled I Bet on Sky, the band have released the first single off the release, Watch the Corners, available to stream below.

About 10 seconds into the track, it becomes clear the band has remained loyal to their long-lasting sound. Members J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph all feature on the release and bring with them their well-known vibe and integral flavour, which oozes out of the track. J returned with his most unhinged guitar sound yet, with Barlow slapping the bass in a slick, mellow fashion and Murph on the sticks is, well, Murph on the sticks: about as animated as the drummer from the Muppets and hard-hitting as a wrecking ball.

The album follows in the footsteps of 2009’s Farm and is expected to sit nicely amongst their already-aired catalogue. While the sound and energy is the same, the band has obviously brought to the mix everything, literally everything, they’ve learned over almost 30 years of recording and playing live.

Fans will be able to get their mitts on a copy September 1. I Bet On Sky will be released internationally though PIAS records. Check out the track list below:

1. Don’t Pretend You Didn’t Know
2. Watch The Corners
3. Almost Fare
4. Stick A Toe In
5. Rude
6. I Know It Oh So Well
7. Pierce The Morning Rain
8. What Was That
9. Recognition
10. See It On Your Side
