A man has now been arrested over the drug-related death of Sydney 19-year-old Georgina Bartter, who died after Sydney’s Harbourlife Festival last year.
Fairfax reports, police will allege a 19-year-old man sold “purple speakers” pills to a third party who then sold the drugs to the 19-year-old Bartter.
According to NSW Police, a drug dealer was arrested on Robert Street, Willoughby, at around 5:30pm on Saturday, 7th February, following an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs sparked by Bartter’s death.
Police say a search of the man produced prohibited drugs on his person, and a search of a home on Robert Street saw police seize a further stockpile of drugs. The man has been charged with three counts of prohibited drug supply and one count of possession.
The man has been granted conditional bail, and is set to at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, 25th March.
While a coroner’s report is still being prepared, it’s believed Georgina Bartter died following a suspected adverse reaction to drugs taken at Harbourlife 2014. Her friends reportedly told police that Bartter had only taken one-and-a-half pills.
Barterr was found convulsing at Harbourlife festival on Saturday, 8th November at Mrs Macquarie’s Point. She was treated by paramedics at the festival after falling unconscious before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where she suffered multiple organ failure and died.
The arrest of the 19-year-old man in Willoughby, in relation to Barterr’s death, fell on the same day a 19-year-old man died following the Sydney dance event A State Of Trance, which also left a 20-year-old man on life support. Police laid 40 drug charges and arrested three people on drug supply charges at the event.
UPDATE 10/02/14 9:02pm: Another teenager has been implicated in this tragic incident, with reports that Bartter’s close friend has been charged with supplying the ecstasy pills that led to the teen’s death.
