Metallica Sorting Through Nearly 600 Song Ideas, But In No Haste To Release Next Album

Hanging out for a new Metallica record? Well, the band feels your pain, but they’re not in a hurry, with drummer Lars Ulrich saying they have over 600 new song ideas that they’ll turn into a follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic when the time is right.

Ulrich told Rolling Stone, “I understand there are people waiting for a new record, and so are we. But I can’t stress about it. It’s not like, ‘Fuck, hurry up and get this record out.’ Hurry up for what? So we can go play gigs? We already play gigs. We’ll get there.”

As for the 600 plus song ideas, Ulrich said the band came up with them during rehearsals and jam sessions in January and March of this year, mainly whilst on tour. But for now the band have had their focus firmly on their own music festival, Detroit’s Orion Music + More, at which they played a secret show earlier in the month, under the name Dehaan.

The metal legends also have a 3D film coming out in September, Though The Never, which has been described as “half concert, half movie” by its star, Dane DeHaan.
