Radiohead To Begin Recording New Album In September

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood has confirmed the band will enter the studio in September to complete their ninth studio album. The band’s last album was 2011’s well-received The King of Limbs, which saw the band return to Australia the following year after an eight-year absence.

As Rolling Stone reports, Greenwood made the announcement on Saturday during an appearance on Mary Anne Hobbes‘ BBC 6 Music show. “We’re going to start up in September, playing, rehearsing and recording and see how it’s sounding,” Greenwood reportedly told the host.

Back in April, the guitarist and multi-instrumentalist told Nashville Cream that the UK indie icons were “meeting up at the end of the summer, and we’ll make a plan.” Greenwood explained that the band is and always has been “a slow-moving animal” and would meet to decide “what we do next.”

The statement followed comments by bassist Colin Greenwood, Jonny’s brother, who indicated that the follow-up to The King of Limbs was “up in the air,” telling Drowned In Sound, “We’re all just taking it easy at the moment. I wish I could say we were going to start work and put something out then spend twelve months on the road touring but we’re just enjoying being at home right now.”

However, frontman Thom Yorke has indicated that work has already begun on the band’s ninth album, revealing during a Reddit AMA last year that two songs were partially recorded at Jack White‘s Third Man Records. One of the tracks, Identikit, got an airing during the band’s last tour.
