Rufus Wainwright Box Set This Year

Still basking in the happy glow of his becoming a new dad, Rufus Wainwright has been kept extra busy lately with sorting out the make up of a new box set, set for release later this year.

The news is up on the Canadian/American’s website, which reads, “There are plans afoot to release a beautiful limited edition box set of Rufus’ recordings this year.

“Rufus has spent the last few months trawling through various archives and listening to some cracking outtakes and demos. The full details have yet to come together but it’s shaping up to being a thing of beauty!”

The news is the latest in the aligning of happy stars in the Wainwright universe, with the news last month that Rufus had fathered a daughter with Leonard Cohen‘s daughter, Lorca.

The box set announcement comes along with the news that Wainwright will play two ‘special’ shows this year. The first being a full orchestra performance at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago on August 14, and the second being a sort of homecoming event in Montreal in October, where he will play with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal.

Before that though he will play the much-anticipated five-night residency at the Royal Opera House in London in July.

Far be it for us to fan the flames of family rivalries, but Rufus’s dad Loudon Wainwright is releasing a box set of his own, entitled 40 Odd Years and co-produced by actor and friend Judd Atapow. Wainwright senior’s effort comes out via Shout! Factory Records on May 3 in the US.
