Slipknot Frontman Corey Taylor Reveals He’s Tired Of Touring And Could Step Away From The Band

Slipknot are one of the most intense, hard-working live acts on the planet but it looks like it could all wind down soon if we’re to believe frontman Corey Taylor.

Speaking to the Someone Who Isn’t Me podcast (via Blabbermouth), Taylor was asked if he’d ever get tired of touring and his answer was probably not what Slipknot fans would want to hear.

“You know, honestly, if you’d asked me a year ago, I would have said no,” he said.

“But, I mean, just now… I’m just kind of starting to… I’m forty-two; I’m not young anymore. And as willing as my will is, I’m just beat up, man. I mean, I might as well be 60 in Slipknot years, for Christ’s sake.”

Taylor, who also fronts Stone Sour, clarified that he wouldn’t retire but he may have to pull himself away from Slipknot due to the intensity of the band.

“I don’t know if I would retire. I might step away from Slipknot at some point, just because the way the music is, and that sense of energy, I don’t know if I could be able to do that into my fifties,” he said.

“And I would never want the band to feel like I was holding them back, because I just couldn’t physically do it. So that means I wouldn’t completely quit music; I would probably just step away from Slipknot.”

It’s hard to imagine Slipknot carrying on without Taylor, but it doesn’t seem like we’ll be faced with that reality soon. He’s still looking towards the next album, the follow-up to 2014’s double album .5: The Gray Chapter.

The band have consistently evolved over their five albums and he’s already thinking about what they’re going to do next.

“At some point, it has to mean something other than just the fucking insanity,” he said. The reason for that being that Taylor is worried that the band won’t be able to physically pull it off as they get older.

“In the future, we’ll make it less about the angst and the insanity and more about the creativity, because there’s so many creative people in this band that,” he continued.

“I mean, fuck, man, we could make, you know, twelve albums of just crazy, gnarly shit and it wouldn’t have to be just balls-out war every time. So, I mean, it’s definitely something we’re thinking about.”

Hopefully there’s still a little bit of insanity left in the band. The last time they were in the country they tore apart the Soundwave stage in 2015 and left fans hanging out for more.
