Sylar Drop Surprising Cover Of Linkin Park’s ‘Points Of Authority’ Ahead Of Debut Australian Tour

New York rap-core rising stars Sylar have uploaded a cover of one of Linkin Park‘s most epic songs ‘Points Of Authority’ just days after the tragic death of iconic frontman Chester Bennington.

The Hopeless Records signees have yet to comment on their motivations for recording the cover, or indeed whether they tracked it before or after Chester’s death. But it’s not hard to imagine Linkin Park having a huge influence on Sylar as a band (if you haven’t heard their music, it’s that same fuck-yeah mix of heavy guitars, aggressive rapping and catchy AF melodies that Chester’s band pioneered in the early noughties).

Sylar, who are gearing up to embark on their debut tour of Australia this November with Miss May I, have been dedicating many songs on their current Vans Warped Tour stint to the fallen Linkin Park frontman, and blasting Linkin Park over the PA before they hit the stage:

Their cover of the Hybrid Theory classic is actually surprisingly less-heavy than you’d expect from Sylar, and is packing a real noughties industrial metal vibe (think Orgy, Nine Inch Nails or Static X).

Give it a listen below via Spotify and see what you reckon, or check out Sylar’s full list of Aussie tour dates here.

Meanwhile, members of Periphery and From First To Last have teamed up to record a cover of LP’s ‘Shadow Of The Day’ in honour of Chester amid other live tributes from his other peers in the rock community including Corey Taylor and Korn.

The world is still reeling from the shock news of the 41-year-old frontman’s tragic death just days ago, which has since been confirmed as a suicide (despite a hoax news story doing the rounds suggesting police are investigating a homicide lead).

RIP to another music legend.
