Die Antwoord haven’t made a reputation for themselves by being subtle. Since the release of their second album Ten$Ion, the high energy Zef outfit have posed the question, ‘Who needs tits, with an ass like this’ in the clip for Baby’s On Fire; rubbed their dick on XP€N$IV $H1T (albiet a non-album single) and made a mock advert for penis enlargement cream as part of a preview for their latest clip Fatty Boom Boom.
Now with the official video unleashed upon the world, Die Antwoord have taken the opportunity to mock Lady Gaga and also take a shot at The Black Eyed Peas. Earlier in 2012 reports surfaced that Die Antwoord declined an offer to open for Lady Gaga, with rappers Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er telling MTV that they’d rather not be associated with her kind of pop music.
“We like making pop music, and like hardcore music at the same time, mixing them, but it’s got, like, soul… It’s not like weak, superficial shit. You know?,” Ninja explained to MTV.
With that in mind the Die Antwoord clip for Fatty Boom Boom sees Lady Gaga (impersonated by an unknown actress) taking a van tour of South Africa. Everything seems to be going well as the tour guide points out Die Antwoord on the street, which causes Gaga to express admiration for their ‘freaky fashion’ and muses the possibility of having the band open for her.
Things quickly take a turn for the worse though as the van is hijacked. Gaga flees on foot but things get weird when she visits a local doctor, who extracts a wasp from her vagina (a twist on Gaga’s Born This Way) before Gaga leaves the clinic to be eventually eaten by a lion.
Die Antwoord also share their thoughts on the Black Eyed Peas at the 46 second mark, as noted by Spin, with some street art depicting a double-headed cat with the faces of Nicki Minaj and Kanye West shitting out the Black Eyed Peas; the symbolism of which we’ll leave for you to decode…
