Watch Frenzal Rhomb’s Drummer Break His Arm During Failed Stage-Diving Lesson

Frenzal Rhomb drummer Gordy Forman has reportedly chucked a Dave Grohl at a gig in WA, breaking his arm mid-set during an onstage accident.

As The Music reports, the sticksman emerged from behind his kit around eight songs deep into the Sydney punks’ set at Perth’s Amplifier Bar, to scold fans on their dodgy stage-diving technique, and demonstrate the correct form.

“Pretty sure if you want to stage dive it’s simple,” he instructed the crowd. “Here’s the one, two, three dive. Stand up here…”

Forman then catapulted himself into the first few rows, before almost immediately being dumped upside-down back on to the stage, appearing to snap his arm on a barrier.

“Uh-oh,” singer Jason Whalley can be heard reacting in video footage of the incident. “Oh no, he’s broken his arm”.

The drummer was then carted offstage by members of the crew, after which Frenzal returned to soldier on as a three-piece, with Whalley switching to bass, so bassist Tom Crease could take over drumming duties.

“Take that, Dave Grohl,” the singer reportedly quipped, referring to the recent incident that saw the Foo Fighter break his leg during a mid-gig fall in Sweden. “Now I don’t have to give any money back.”

At the time of writing, Frenzal have yet to address the issue and if it might affect the rest of their tour dates, with three more shows scheduled for late July and early August.

However, fans have been quick to upload footage of the accident and subsequent three-piece performance, which you can check out below.

UPDATE 13/07/15: The band’s management have told theMusic that future tour plans are still uncertain, but their next upcoming at the Cambridge Hotel on 31st July will go ahead.

Meanwhile Gordy Forman has shared a picture of himself recovering in his hospital bed. “I have this curse where, right before recording, I end up breaking a bone or needing stitches,” reads the caption. “This may be my best one yet!”

UPDATE 13/07/15: The band have now issued a statement announcing they will postpone their remaining shows. Read the full statement below.

You’ve got to admit, we’re pretty great at Irony. A dude in the crowd (at his 22nd Frenzal Rhomb show) tried to stage dive and he sucked. So Gordy, being the benevolent soul he is, got up from behind his drum kit to show the young gent how it’s done. Unfortunately a combination of an enthusiastic crowd, a selfless drummer and an unforgiving crowd barrier meant that Gordy’s humerus (yes, we know he’s funny but what about his arm?) landed in two pieces. Snapped in half like an drumstick. The surgeons at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, under the expert tutelage of Drew Goddard from Karnivool, superglued the offending bone back together and wrapped it in packing tape. Should be good to go in a coupla months. Until then we might have to push back the Newcastle, Wollongong and Adelaide shows because Jason still hasn’t worked out You Are Not My Friend on bass. This will also give us a bit more time to write a hit single for our upcoming album, or at least arrange to hire the dude from Def Leppard’s drumkit.
