Last month, Music Feeds reported on a photographer who is suing the team Lana Del Rey employed for her short film Tropico after he was attacked for taking photos of the production, and according Black Keys frontman Dan Auberbach, conflict followed Del Rey into the studio as well.
Speaking to Mojo, via Gigwise, Auerbach revealed that he and the singer sometimes fought during the making of her sophomore album, Ultraviolence, which Auerbach produced. However, he praised Del Rey for her commitment, hard work, and vision. “We were only scheduled to do three days, and then she stretched it out to two weeks and we finished a whole record. She’s the real deal,” he said.
Auerbach said the two fought over the direction of the record.”She impressed me every day. There were moments when she was fighting me. I could sense that maybe she didn’t want to have anybody think she wasn’t in control because I’m sure it’s really hard to be a woman in the music business. So we bumped heads a little bit, but at the end of the day we were dancing to the songs.”
Del Rey unveiled the first single from the album last month after debuting it live during her set at Coachella 2014. Del Rey had previously teased a portion of West Coast during a gig at The Chelsea in Las Vegas. A cautious Del Rey sang just a portion of the first verse without her band.
