The excessively cheerful Pharrell Williams can now add author of children’s books to his long list of credentials after he inked a four book deal with a US publisher, with the first book to be inspired by his hit song Happy.
Reports Billboard, Putnam Books for Young Readers announced that the book, titled Happy, will be published on September 22nd and will feature photos of kids from around the world “celebrating what it means to be happy.” Meaning Pharrell is beating Danny Brown to the punch.
“I’m humbled by the global success of Happy, but especially in awe of the song’s young fans,” Pharrell said in a statement. “My collaboration with Penguin allows me to continue a dialogue with these children in a fresh, new way. We’re both committed to feeding the curiosity of young minds with imagination.”
This isn’t Pharrell’s first time at the book-writing rodeo. In 2012 he published Places and Spaces I’ve Been, detailing his contributions to modern pop culture. That book includes excerpts from Jay-Z, Kanye West, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and even astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
Taking things in a slightly different direction, the man of many hats, or just that one really, is also taking the production reigns on the new Snoop Dogg album due out later this month. The album is titled BUSH, so draw what you will from that. Snoop teased the new collab overnight in the form of an album trailer.
The album is also set to feature appearances from musicians Charlie Wilson and Stevie Wonder. Pharrell previously worked with Snoop on tracks Beautiful and Drop It Like It’s Hot.
