Spontaneous music fesitval NOW now announce launch

The 10th annual NOW now spontaneous music festival will be launching on Dec 16th at the Red Rattler in Marrickville. Featuring some of the worlds most renowned improvised based musicians as well as plenty of local talent, the festival which will run from 21st – 28th of January 2011 promises to be one of the most exciting and challenging events in Sydney’s creative calendar, showcasing a side of Sydney’s music scene that is often glossed over and deserves your support.

The launch will feature Electronic soundscape artists swill, percussion legend Robbie Avenaim, multimedia artists HU (Aaron Hull and Greg Hughes) and the hard-knocking exponents of the style-free movement Prophets, with free mixtapes on offer showcasing a range of the artists to be featured in the festival proper. There will also be special 6 day and 3 day passes on sale at early bird rates as well as plenty of merch.

The festival itself is set to feature YAN JUN from China, Brisbane’s SKY NEEDLE, ROIL, Tassie’s UNTERMORAST, MAGDA MAYAS from Germany, Argentina’s ALAN COURTIS, Scandinavian band THE THING, plus JIM DENLEY +CHRIS ABRAHAMS. And, of course, the latest incarnation of the legendary SPLINTER ORCHESTRA… a full scale big band featuring the improvising musical who’s who of the fest all together! This year will also be the first year since 2007 that the festival has taken place in Sydney, the previous three years having been held up in the Blue Mountains so get involved and share the fun.
