UPDATE 02/08/19: You Can Stream Tool’s Entire Back Catalogue Right Now
Progressive-metal giants Tool are one of the last groups to abstain from uploading their discography to streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify. But it looks like that could all be about to change!
Until now, the legendary band had only offered its music through physical platforms. But rumblings of a turning tide began back in 2017 when Bloomberg reported that, with the forthcoming release of their much anticipated fifth album, the band were considering uploading their entire back catalogue to both Apple Music and Spotify to coincide with the release.
But of course, the album never eventuated.
Now, in 2019, we’re pretty sure Tool’s fifth album is FINALLY coming.
And as further evidence, the band has now made profiles on the popular streaming services, Apple Music and Spotify with matching biographies.
Their Spotify doesn’t have any songs yet… and their Apple Music profile has a club mix cover of The Police’s ‘Every Breath You Take’ performed by Vektor, Shannon & Tool (a classic mix-up).
At any rate, it looks likely that Tool’s music will be available to stream pretty soon — regardless of frontman Maynard James Keenan trashing streaming to Phoenix New Times back in 2013.
“There’s something about connecting with that physical piece of property, and also things you don’t know about,” he said at the time.
“When you download the song, there’s nothing. Sometimes it comes with a booklet, sometimes it comes with an image, but usually it doesn’t.”
Yesterday, Tool guitarist Adam Jones teased a new riff and frontman Keenan hinted that Tool would be performing brand new stuff on their upcoming US tour.
