Kiama-based garage rock outfit Pacific Avenue release their debut EP Strawberry Skies today. Written in the band’s south coast surroundings, the tracks are imbued with a beachy quality that can be heard across the EP, with buoyant energy reminiscent of Skeggs or fellow Wollongong act Hockey Dad.
The band say Strawberry Skies is an insight into their lives over the past two years.
“The collection of songs on this EP were written at a time where we were all living together in a little beach shack in Woonona. This was our first time out of home and we were all experiencing the surreal and wonderful feeling of absolute freedom. During this time strong relationships were made, parties were frequent, and we were starting to understand ourselves individually.
“The songs on the EP encapsulate this feeling and tell of the story’s and emotions which come with the freedom of youth.”
Lead single ‘Something Good’ reflects that freedom, a nostalgic surf-rock track that feels at once carefree and dynamic.
To celebrate the release of Strawberry Skies, the band will be embarking on a national tour from late September, kicking off in Berry on the 21st before a run of dates that includes a set at Yours & Owls festival in Wollongong.
