Prolific Australian musician Justin Brady has shared his devastation after losing almost everything in the deadly Victorian bushfires.
The John Farnham collaborator and ex member of folk-rock icons Things Of Stone & Wood grabbed all of the instruments he could carry — a violin, harmonica and mandolin — before sheltering in a canoe docked at a nearby jetty as the inferno ripped through and burnt his Karbeethong Hill home to the ground.
Speaking with The Age, the multi-instrumentalist said the bushfire situation around Mallacoota in Victoria’s East Gippsland region was “apocalyptic”.
“I lost everything pretty much,” Brady said.
“I built the house 25 years ago but only just recently, the last three months, I decided to live there as my base. Previously I had lived here but toured too.
He continued: “I did a big rake up of all the leaves around the houses but it’s a bush block. It’s gone.”
According to The Age, around 50 other terrified locals also sheltered in the same jetty as the blaze tore through.
Meanwhile, in happier news, Aussie EDM duo Peking Duk have managed to raise over $50K for bushfire relief via their fundraiser gig, following the cancellation of Falls Festival Lorne, while WAAX & friends have raised another $5K.
