Esteemed rockers, Pearl Jam have unveiled a new song off of their forthcoming album today. The new track from Gigaton, ‘Superblood Wolfmoon’ can only be heard by loading up the web app and pointing your phone to the moon though.
The web app offers an experience in augmented reality. You load up the web app and point your camera at the moon to get the single playing. And, according to Consequence of Sound, it’s important it’s the real moon and not a photo of it.
Once the song starts playing, on-screen animations apparently dance around the moon.
If that all sounds like a little too much effort, it’s okay. The song’s set for release, of the traditional kind, Wednesday, 19th February.
CEO of the company making it all happen, Powster’s Ste Thompson said in a statement, “This activation displays their innovation and creative energy going into their new album.
“Adapting to new technologies and integrating platforms unleashes the full potential of music, as well as changes the way fans experience new sounds, and we are excited to be teaming up with Pearl Jam to provide their fans with this exclusive look at their style and artistic direction.”
‘Superblood Wolfmoon’ is the second single we’ve received from Pearl Jam’s upcoming album. It follows up ‘Dance of the Clairvoyants’.
Mike McCready said in a statement, that making the new album has been a long journey.
“It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”
Gigaton is due out Friday, 27th March. It’ll be Pearl Jam’s first full release since 2013’s Lightning Bolt.
