With the Federal Government announcing bans on all non-essential mass gatherings of more than 100 people amid the Coronavirus pandemic, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard have been forced to pull the pin on the sold-out screenings of their debut film, Chunky Shrapnel.
The mysterious new flick was set to premiere at a couple of advanced screenings at Melbourne’s Astor theatre early next month, but in a statement on social media the Melbourne psychsters said they were working with the venue to deliver refunds.
King Gizz have also announced the cancellation of all their upcoming tour dates around the US and Europe in the wake of the virus.
“The science says no large gatherings so unfortunately we’re postponing all April/May shows,” the band wrote on Facebook.
“Playing music for y’all means so much to us so we’ll be rescheduling as many shows as we possibly can. Hold onto your tickets as they will be valid for the new dates, otherwise the venues will be offering refunds. We’ll keep you posted.
Their statement continues: “The Astor Theatre are working through refunding tickets to our film, Chunky Shrapnel.
“We’ll be listening to experts and taking advice about what is best for the human race going forward.”
But you’ll be glad to hear it’s not all bad news….

Meanwhile, not much is known about Chunky Shrapnel, bar that its title references a lyric from the title track of King Gizz’s 2017 album Murder of the Universe, and that it was directed by John Angus Stewart, who’s worked on several of the band’s past music videos including ‘Self-Immolate’, ‘Planet B’ and ‘Organ Farmer’.
We don’t have any fresh info about where we’ll be able to see the film at this stage. However if this pandemic drags on, maybe the lads could get Netflix on the blower?
