The Chicks’ First Album In 14 Years Is Now Here

The Chicks’ (FKA The Dixie Chicks) first studio album in 14 years arrives today. Gaslighter follows up Taking The Long Way and features singles ‘Gaslighter’, ‘March March’, and ‘Julianna Calm Down’.

It’s a good day for fans. A whopping 22 years after the release of their debut album Open Spaces and a name change later, The Chicks still have plenty to say. On their fifth studio album, Gaslighter, they explore divorce, raising daughters, and hardships.

The album was initially scheduled for release Friday, 1st May but was delayed due to COVID-19. They instead shared ‘Julianna Calm Down’ that day. Sharing the single, the trio said, “We hope it makes you feel empowered, smile, and strut the f*** around like you’ve got nothing to lose. We will strut through this time together.”

The New York Times recently published a piece on The Chicks, delving into the growth and awakening of the country trio as well as their influence on the current generation of female musicians and artists.

Touching on Taylor Swift’s Netflix doco Miss Americana, they cite her saying, “Throughout my whole career, label executives and publishers would say, ‘Don’t be like the Dixie Chicks.'”

“And I loved the Dixie Chicks.”

Gaslighter is out today. Listen to ‘Sleep At Night’ below.
