Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has unleashed a brand new solo single as part of Sub Pop Records’ Singles Club, a long-running series of songs released as one-time, limited pressings on the 7” vinyl format.
Dubbed ‘Cartography’, the track originally featured on the soundtrack of a 2018 documentary Return To Mount Kennedy and it’s a real departure from Vedder’s work with Pearl Jam, dishing up eerie acoustic guitar instrumentals.
The track also comes packing a remixed version from Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, which has a more ambient, piano-centric vibe and features audio from political identity Bobby Kennedy’s speech about the death of Martin Luther King Jr.
“Listening to the speech delivered by Bobby Kennedy in regards to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years ago, you are reminded that once again we are at a moment in time when our society can and must do better,” Vedder commented.
“Voting is our most powerful form of nonviolent protest. And those whom we vote for must be made deeply aware that the issues of equality and justice in America are of the utmost importance and need to be not only restored but taken to the next level. NOW.”
All of the proceeds from the release will go toward Fair Fight, a US voting rights organisation.
