Coachella, arguably one of the most famous music festivals in the world, is reportedly set to be postponed a third time to October next year as America continues to grapple with coronavirus.
According by Rolling Stone, sources told the publication that the event’s organisers, AEG and Goldenvoice, are planning to push the event back to late 2021.
“Frankly, they were supposed to announce [the move] over Labor Day,” a source who works at a major talent agency told the publication, who also said that it is “100% moving.”
“They hadn’t. And they were supposed to announce at the end of September — they hadn’t.”
The source shared that they believe the event will go ahead in the first two weeks of October 2021, though have reserved the first three weeks just in case.
They also said that they expect other major festivals to push back until the September and October period as well, which could be problematic as far as booking artists go.
“It’s going to be really challenging for the artists to decide because multiple factors always come in. What does the paycheck look like, what does the moment look like?” the source said.
“Most, if not everyone, are watching what Coachella does. A lot of people are going to wait to see what they do before they really solidify their plans and either have to compete with artists or renegotiate.”
Coachella was originally supposed to happen in April of this year, with a lineup led by Rage Against The Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean. It was then pushed back to October of this year, and then again to April of next year.
