Foo Fighters are currently preparing to release their tenth studio album Medicine at Midnight, and they’ve kicked off 2021 by sharing the second single from the record following ‘Shame Shame’ back in November.
Considerably more direct and incendiary than the album’s previous single, ‘No Son of Mine’ is a searing, riff-heavy cut that harkens back to the band’s classic rock influences.
“This is the kind of song that just resides in all of us and if it makes sense at the time, we let it out,” frontman Dave Grohl explained in a statement.
“Lyrically it’s meant to poke at the hypocrisy of self righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against.”
Medicine at Midnight, recorded with Concrete and Gold producer Greg Kurstin, is set to arrive next month on Friday, 5th February. In our interview last year, Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel discussed how Grohl initially pitched the album to him.
“He and I were in Hawaii. We happened to be vacationing at the same place and we were sitting in a pool and he said, ‘I want this to be our Let’s Dance,’” Mendel explained.
“Like, short, simple, everything totally accessible and kind of a bit poppier than what had come before it. And I was like, ‘Fuck yes. That sounds awesome.’”
