‘King Of The Hill’ Creators Are Reportedly In Negotiations For Revival

It looks like King of the Hill co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are attempting to revive the classic animated series.

As Consequence of Sounds reports, in a recent Reddit AMA, former writer Brent Forrester was asked if he had any updates regarding a revival of the show – which aired its final episode back in 2009, and has been the subject of rumours regarding a revival since 2017.

“I am sure Greg Daniels and Mike Judge will murder me for sharing this but… HELL YES. They are in hot negotiations to bring back King of the Hill,” Forrester wrote.

“The Trump administration made it suddenly very relevant again. The characters have all aged 15 years. The project is sooooo good. Okay I’ve said too much.”

The concept of a revival in which the characters have all aged aligns with comments Judge made in 2018, when he told Rotten Tomatoes he wanted any plans to bring back the show to include aged characters, such as an older version of Bobby, who is 13 in the original series.

The original King of the Hill ran for 13 seasons between 1997 and 2009 on FOX, and centred on the Hill family – father Hank, mother Peggy and son Bobby – in the fictional city of Arlen, Texas.

Though centring on the mundane lives of the Hill family and their neighbours, the show also regularly touched on cultural, social and political issues as it progressed. It’s interesting to imagine how a version of the show that takes place following the Trump era might look, and how Judge and Daniels might handle that tension.
