Death From Above 1979 Announce 2025 Australian Tour

Death From Above 1979 have announced their return to Australia, marking only the third time the Canadian dance-punk duo has toured the country. The band returns in April 2025, as part of a world tour to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, 2004’s You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine. The full list of tour dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.

The band were last in Australia in late 2011, as an exclusive act on that year’s Parklife festival line-up alongside the likes of Gossip, The Streets, Little Dragon, Santigold and Duck Sauce. These were some of the earliest shows of the band’s reunion, which began that year some five years after their abrupt 2006 split. They have since released three further studio albums: 2014’s The Physical World, 2017’s Outrage! Is Now and 2021’s Is 4 Lovers.

Death From Above 1979 – ‘Romantic Rights’

You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine was originally released on October 26th, 2004 – meaning this coming Saturday will mark its official 20th anniversary. The album featured three singles: ‘Romantic Rights’, ‘Blood On Our Hands’ and ‘Black History Month’. The band famously performed ‘Romantic Rights’ on Late Night With Conan O’Brien in 2005, where they were joined by Bruce Springsteen‘s longtime drummer and O’Brien’s longtime bandleader Max Weinberg on drums.

In 2022, Death From Above 1979 had an unexpected crossover with Australian music when Jaguar Jonze released the single ‘Who Died And Made You King?’. The song featured writing credits for both band members (Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastian Grainger) due to the verse’s similarity to the melody of ‘Blood On Our Hands’. In an interview with Beat Magazine at the time, Jonze admitted she did not know of the band or their music.

“The song was written in collaboration with other people, so I’m not sure if the interpolation came into it unknowingly or not,” she said in 2022. “When I was showing the finished song to some friends, one of them showed me ‘Blood On Our Hands’ – and I knew straight away that the likeness was undeniable. I reached out to their team, and we discussed an appropriate credit split so I could pay my respect to their artistry. I was anxious when I found out, but I found this weird synergy that I thought was really sick – I mean, it’s a song called ‘Blood On Our Hands’ from an album called You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine. It felt like this call and response to what I was writing about, and I loved that sentiment.”
