Shortlist Revealed For The 2024 Australian Music Prize: Hiatus Kaiyote, Nick Cave, Amyl & The Sniffers + More

The shortlisted nominees for the 2024 Australian Music Prize have been announced. After over 600 albums were nominated, the committee narrowed the field down to nine albums – the full list of which can be found below.

Following the announcement of the shortlist, several finalists shared statements expressing their gratitude. “Australian music is dear to our hearts, and we are incredibly proud to be able to create and perform the music we make,” said Dec Martens – guitarist for Amyl & The Sniffers, who have been nominated for the third time. Grace Cummings, meanwhile, said she was “over the moon” for the recognition of her third album Ramona, which has earned her a first-time nomination.

“It is a very special thing to work on something you love and it be recognised and appreciated by your peers,” she said. “This record was an absolute mountain for me to climb and I wouldn’t have been able to get there without the support, care and understanding of everybody who helped me put this thing out.”

Warren Ellis has also made Australian Music Prize history by being nominated for the AMP twice in the same shortlist – once as part of Dirty Three, for their comeback album Love Changes Everything, and as a member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for their album Wild God. “It means a great deal to us to be recognised,” said Cave in a statement on behalf of the band. Cave, for his part, is now tied with Tame Impala for the most AMP nominations in its near 20-year history at four apiece.

The winner of the 2024 Australian Music Prize will be announced on Wednesday, December 4th.
