ICYMI, ALP leader Anthony Albanese, AKA DJ Albo, just became the first Aussie Prime Minister in two decades to be re-elected for a second term as top dog, thwarting the Libs’ Peter Dutton in an early-called election, which also saw Dutton lose his marginal Queensland seat of Dickson.
It also seems Albo was feeling pretty confident heading into the polls, based on a cheeky song dedication he made in Dutton’s honour on Melbourne radio the morning before the Democracy Sausages hit the barbie…
“It’s obvious who it’s dedicated to.”
Speaking to Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren on the wireless, Albo was given the chance to flex his well established musical chops.
“We’re going to give you a great honour this morning every Friday on the show…” Jase told the PM. “We like to play an old school banger after eight o’clock, a song that just you know, brings this city vibe to a high for the weekend… We call it our ‘lights on, sing along’. What would your song choice be for the banger today?”
Clarifying whether the intent of the segment was indeed to get people singing along, Albo responded: “There’s no better sing along than ‘Am I ever gonna see your face again’ by The Angels.”
“I did not see that one coming!” Jase responded, to which Albo quipped: “And almost every one of your listeners just got the joke.”
Then, when asked if he’d like to dedicate the iconic pub rock banger to anyone in particular, the PM replied deviously: “You know, it’s obvious who it’s dedicated to.”
Election-winning sass right there.
