It’s official: Sid Wilson is no longer a member of Slipknot.
After weeks of reports claiming the longtime turntablist had been fired from the masked metal titans, Slipknot have now broken their silence and confirmed Wilson’s departure.
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.”
In a brief statement shared to the band’s social media pages on Friday evening, Slipknot wrote:
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
And… that’s it.
No explanation for the split was provided, with the extraordinarily blunt statement offering no further context around what brought Wilson’s more than 25-year tenure with the band to an end.
Interestingly, the post was subsequently removed from Slipknot’s own social accounts, although a screenshot was also shared by the official Knotfest Instagram account, where it remains available at the time of reporting.
The confirmation comes around two weeks after TMZ first reported that Wilson had been fired from Slipknot.
The gossip outlet later doubled down on the story, claiming unnamed sources had told them the decision had been “a long time coming” and stemmed from the way Wilson allegedly treated his bandmates.
At the time, neither Slipknot nor Wilson confirmed those claims, while guitarist Jim Root appeared to caution fans against immediately believing everything they were reading online.
That ambiguity has now been removed as far as Wilson’s membership status is concerned, although Slipknot have still not publicly confirmed TMZ’s reported explanation for why the split occurred.
Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998 and became one of the most recognisable members of the band’s classic lineup as #0, contributing turntables, samples and an infamously chaotic live presence across the group’s rise from Iowa outsiders to one of the biggest metal bands on the planet.
His exit makes him the latest longtime member to depart the Slipknot ranks.
Percussionist Chris Fehn left the band in 2019, while sampler and keyboardist Craig Jones departed in 2023. Founding drummer Joey Jordison left in 2013 and later died in 2021, while founding bassist Paul Gray died in 2010 while still an active member of the group.
Wilson’s departure also arrives amid major changes in his personal life, with TMZ previously reporting that he and Kelly Osbourne had ended their relationship earlier this year.
The pair welcomed a son together in 2022, with Wilson later proposing to Osbourne backstage at Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell ‘Back To The Beginning’ concert in Birmingham in 2025.
Slipknot have not announced a replacement for Wilson at this stage.
For now, the only official word from the band is clear, if remarkably blunt: “Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.”
