Eora/Sydney indie-rock-pop duo Lahgo are back with a swaggering new single dubbed ‘What I Need’ – and they’re giving fans a few extra reasons to catch them IRL.
Produced by Ethan Reginato (Holly Hebe, Meg Mac, Charli Lucas), ‘What I Need’ pairs fuzzed-out guitars and a driving bassline with vocalist Mel Bailey’s commanding pipes, while lyrically diving into the occasionally messy business of loving someone enough to call them on their shit.

Specifically, Bailey drew inspiration from her relationship with her sister and the push-and-pull between unconditional support and brutal honesty.
“I wanted to capture the complex relationship I have with my sister and how difficult it can be to navigate at times,” Bailey explains. “She’s my favourite person in the world, and someone I’ve looked up to my whole life. As inspiring and as loving as our relationship is, it’s also honest, direct and sometimes confrontational.”
“There’s a constant push and pull between wanting the people you love to tell you you’re doing everything right, and knowing that what you really need is for them to be honest about your flaws and the times you’ve got it wrong.”
“I think the strongest relationships are the ones where you can support each other unconditionally while still holding each other accountable.”
And in a fun little throwback to the pre-streaming era, lahgo are also giving fans who actually leave the house some exclusive loot.
The duo have cooked up a limited physical CD edition of ‘What I Need’ containing two additional unreleased tracks, which won’t be available on streaming services. Instead, fans can get their mitts on them exclusively at lahgo’s upcoming shows or through a hidden merch store accessible to their mailing list.
“We wanted to give the fans that come to our shows access to these new recordings before anyone else,” the band explains.
The three recordings offer an early taste of a longer-form lahgo release due to arrive in 2027, with the duo describing the limited CD as something made specifically for their community.
And conveniently, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to score one.
lahgo are hitting the road for a 10-date East Coast tour spanning NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, including some pretty bloody sizeable support slots.
They’ll warm up for The Living End and The Superjesus at Thirroul’s Anita’s Theatre this Friday, before joining Aussie rock royalty The Angels at Leichhardt Oval next month.
The run follows a string of sold-out Sydney headline shows for the rising duo, who’ve previously shared stages with The Terrys, DZ Deathrays, Don West and Le Shiv, as well as appearing at Party In The Paddock and King Street Crawl.
