Ash Grunwald – Hot Mama Vibe

Who wants to party? Good, because Ash wants you to come to his party where he’s going to get you moving your feet, swinging your hips and getting down and dirty with the tracks off his new record Hot Mama Vibe. This album is dirty garage blues mixed with 70s funk and hip hop beats.

The man has never been afraid to experiment with instruments and sounds and this album is no exception, with Ash enlisting the help of friends Count Bounce from TZU, and members of Funkoars and Astronomy Class to lay beats over his swamp-fuelled guitar tracks. What we get is an incredible funky offering from Ash which might be the best album he has made.

There’s never been a question of talent in performance for Ash Grunwald and anyone who has seen him live can testify for that, but at times his song writing has left a bit to be desired; never quite capturing the live vibe on disc and often leaving listeners a little under-whelmed. But not with this record.

From lead single ‘Walking’ through to party anthem ‘Tear The Roof Off’ through to title track ‘Hot Mama’ and ‘Love Me’ all the tracks pop on this album and you find it an easy album to get lost in. The blues have never sounded so warm and sexy as they do through these thirteen tracks.

Australia’s funkiest blues man has turned it up with his new record Hot Mama Vibe. This album oozes cool. The riffs are huge and fuzzy, Ash’s voice is deep and seductive and the songs are upbeat and catchy. I defy any hard arse to not want to get up and shake their booty to this one.
