Apple will remove their in-built social network Ping in the next release of iTunes after the company admitted that it was not doing as well as it hoped. The service was integrated in to their popular music program in September 2010, and hoped it would add a social aspect for it’s users by letting them interact with friends and artists.
According to Billboard, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at the demise of Ping two weeks ago while being interviewed at D10 saying: “We tried Ping, and I think the customer voted and said, ‘this isn’t something that I want to put a lot of energy into.'”
Facebook and Twitter are now becoming more and more apart of their iPhone OS, desktop programs like iTunes could see a swift swap out of social functionality very soon.
