Comic legend Dave Chappelle has just announced his inaugural tour of Australia, announcing dates for his first-ever international tour starting this February and March.
Most known for his boundary–bashing television series, Chappelle’s Show, the comedian, screenwriter, television and film producer and actor catapulted to international stardom with his irreverent parodies of American culture, including racial stereotypes and politics.
In 2004, Chappelle stunned fans and the entertainment industry when he abruptly left during production of the third season of Chappelle’s Show, citing his dissatisfaction with the direction the show had taken.
Chappelle returned to the screens in 2005, starring in and producing the documentary, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, chronicling him hosting a free, star-studded concert in Brooklyn. Several artists, including Kanye West, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Dead Prez and Jill Scott, are featured in the movie, which was a critical and box office success.
Since early 2013 Chappelle has been touring North America to phenomenal success, selling out venues all over America and Canada. In July he broke the record at the prestigious Just for Laughs festival in Montreal for number of tickets sold by a single performer.
The Australian tour will be the first time Dave Chappelle has toured outside of North America, so don’t miss this rare chance to see the man Esquire dubbed “the comic genius of America.” Tickets for all shows go on sale at 9am this Tuesday, 28th January, with presale options available.
UPDATE 11:20am 24/01/14: Live Nation pre-sales have now commenced and tickets are flying out the door — so fast, in fact, that Melbourne and Sydney have had extra shows added before general release has even commenced! Details are below.
