Pandora Arrives in Australia

Online personalised radio service Pandora has finally reached Australia, after being originally founded in 2000. Finally reaching our land girt by sea, Pandora co-founder Tim Westergren expressed great joy that the long road to Australia had finally been travelled.

“I’ve waited seven long years to say these words…hello Australia! Welcome to Pandora’s personalized radio service! You can’t imagine how delighted we are to be able to start streaming Pandora into Australia.” Westergren stated in an official press release.

Pandora is based off the Music Genome Project, which was conceived by Westergren and fellow Pandora co-founder Will Glaser. Similar to the increasingly popular Spotify, which became available in Australia around February/March, Pandora gives music fans the ability to stream a wide selection of music. Like Spotify’s ‘radio stations’, Pandora also attempts to assess users’ tastes based on listening habits and feedback in order to recommend new music the user may enjoy.

Although now available in Australia, Pandora is not quite ‘fully operational’ as Westergren points out in an official press release.

“This is a beta launch of Pandora in Australia. There’s much more to do to enable the full breadth of Pandora’s capabilities to Australia (including such things as a mobile app for smartphones), but we didn’t want to wait any longer. So stay tuned.”
