YouTube and the Sydney Opera House will be providing live streams for over 20 unique live shows starting from 2013, thanks to a newly announced two-year agreement between the video-sharing website and the storied venue.
This year’s Vivid Live Festival brought in 296,000 unique views during The Temper Trap’s performance. The online audience was 100 times greater than those actually in attendance at the Concert Hall in the Sydney Opera House.
Head of Music Partnerships YouTube Australia & New Zealand, Richard North, stated in a press release that the newly announced partnership will help bring the events of the Sydney Opera House to a global audience.
“Sydney Opera House is one of the most ambitious and truly innovative venues in the world. They have a long-standing commitment to using technology to democratise access to their incredible performances. Building on hugely successful events like YouTube Symphony Orchestra and Vivid LIVE 2012, this new, long-term partnership is going to open up even more of the Opera House’s events to our 800 million strong monthly audience, showcasing the best of Australia and the world, live on the world’s largest stage – YouTube.”
