Off the back of their new single Illuminate Nick from Sydney group Conics chats with Music Feeds before they set out to rule indie club dance floors across the country, starting with Ghettoblaster on June 4th.
Music Feeds: The gig at Ghettoblaster is going to have a skate ramp and live art happening; when you’re not playing are you guys going to get in on any of that?
Nick From Conics: Definitely. Pretty sure our frotha guitarist has already packed his board in his guitar case.
MF: For someone who had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
NC: Dance grooves, melodic guitars, synths and vocal harmonies.
MF: Who are some of the good Sydney bands that you’ve played with and who should we keep an eye out for?
NC: We’ve got a gig coming up with Rapids, we’re really liking their stuff. New Navy are another cool Sydney band to watch.
MF: What is the best/worst show you’ve played to date and why was it so?
NC: We launched our single Illuminate at Melt Bar in Kings Cross. Over 200 people showed up, which numbed the pain of our singer’s snapped kneecap and guitarist’s broken ankle.
MF: If you could share the stage with any band dead or alive, who would it be?
NC: Die Antwoord or David Bowie
MF: What’s happening next for Conics in the way of writing and releasing new material?
NC: We’re constantly jamming and writing new tunes. We recently got back from a farmhouse up near Seal Rocks where we just played around with new sounds for a week. We’re heading into the studio in a couple of weeks to record a new track just so there’s more of our music floating around. Then the plan is to put out an EP later this year and get a tour together for that.
