Sunday, 7th September – NeCambridge, Newcastle NSW

KC: This was a really long day because we got to the venue late-morning but didn’t get access to load in until hours later, and if you know where this venue is you’ll realise there’s not a thing to do on foot within about 30 minutes walk. We didn’t see any ghosts in the venue nor Silverchair members, so it was a fairly minimal day.

Show was a rager, though. Newcastle always delivers at the 11th hour and the crowd were gnarly. Ghost Inside closed the show with a ferocious set, highlight being the new track they are previewing to Australia on this run. Asshole security was being rough with crowd-surfers so that was the down point, otherwise a good night.

Tuesday, 9th September – YAC, Byron Bay NSW

KC: About 11am we were talking about utilising all the good Byron has to offer and actually getting some sunlight, taking a hike, hitting the beach (all after devouring as many kofta from the local Krishna joint as possible of course), but everyone is slow moving. It’s about 15 minutes later that we hear there was a fatal shark attack at [the] main beach, and further learned later that night members of TGI and BT were in the water at the time. Scary stuff!

The show at the Youthy was to be expected – we have been playing up here for close to 12 years now and despite new faces every couple years, there’s a timelessness to this venue and show vibe. Always sweaty and enthusiastic, although not as crazy as the ’03-’05 peak days for the town. Good to see some old friends throughout the night.

Wednesday, 10th September – Kontraband, Toowoomba QLD

Jamie Hope: This was a day that stood out for a few reasons. First up was following Jon Vigil around trying to help him find WiFi good enough to download the new iOS 8. This meant first checking the speeds of the free WiFi available at the NAB and McDonald’s (NAB’s is quicker for anyone wondering) and then sitting outside for half an hour, only for it not to work.

We followed this up by grabbing Jim (Riley) and Kev and going for a kick of the footy behind the venue where we were joined by a local. This bloke’s shoe consistently went further than the ball and he later showed up at the venue accusing us of stealing his wallet.

Lastly, at the end of the day when the time for our set had finally rolled around, we got half through the set and the power seemingly just went out. After a couple of minutes we got stage power back but still nothing at front of house.

Turned out that one of the old boys from the RSL that we were playing at was tired and had told our tour manager and techs that it was “knock off time” and pulled the power on us. In doing so he had unfortunately fried some of our gear so we finished the show off by having as many people as possible on stage with us and we played Say Goodbye with just stage sound and no PA, with the crowd singing instead. Not bad considering.
